Prices and the takeaway maths

Temporary kitchen hire cost, and what takeaways cost you instead

Temporary kitchen hire cost comes down to three things: the size, the weeks and the distance to your drive. Run the takeaway calculator below, then check dates and we send your exact weekly price.

No obligation. Pick the size, the weeks and the date that suit you.

What will your renovation cost you in takeaways?

Set the sliders to your household. People times takeaway nights times spend per person times weeks. Switch on coffees, lunches and the laundrette if they apply to you.

What sets the price

Three things decide your weekly price

No hidden extras on the day. You get the weekly price, the delivery and collection charge and any deposit in writing before you book.

The size

10ft Compact, 12ft Family or 14ft Family Plus. Bigger pods carry more kit: a washing machine, a tall fridge freezer, a dishwasher and a breakfast bar. Compare sizes.

The weeks

Hire runs by the week. Extend a week at a time if the build runs on.

The distance

How far we tow the trailer to your drive and back. Your postcode sets the delivery and collection charge, and it is on your written price.

Five ways to keep your temporary kitchen cost down

Book with the fitter

Match delivery to strip-out day, so you never pay for weeks before the kitchen comes out.

Get the programme in writing

A written fit programme lets you book the right number of weeks first time.

Pick by household

Two of you rarely need the 14ft. Choose on people and weeks, not on the biggest box.

Extend, do not over-book

Hire runs by the week, so book the programme plus a buffer and add weeks only if the job runs on.

Ask your insurer

On a claim, ask whether alternative accommodation covers a kitchen on the drive before you pay yourself.

The honest maths

A weekly price against a nightly takeaway bill

Take a family of four in the middle of a six-week kitchen refit. With no oven and no sink, most nights end with a takeaway or a meal out. At five nights a week and £12 a head, that is £240 a week and £1,440 across the build. Add coffees and lunches out, or a weekly laundrette run, and it climbs from there.

That number is money you spend whether you hire a kitchen or not. The question is what you get for it. Spend it on takeaways and you get six weeks of takeaways. Put it towards a kitchen pod and you get your own cooking, your own food and your evenings back.

There is a cost the calculator leaves out: the time. Queueing for collection, driving to the drive-through, washing up in the bath. A kitchen on the drive gives that time back too.

How much is a temporary kitchen pod?

You pay a weekly price for the size you choose. Current weekly prices: 10ft Compact Price on request, 12ft Family Price on request, 14ft Family Plus Price on request. Check dates and we send your exact price for your weeks and your postcode.

What is the temporary kitchen pod cost per month?

Multiply the weekly price by the number of weeks you need. A four-week hire of the 12ft Family is four times Price on request. Longer hires are priced for your dates when you check availability.

Is there a deposit or delivery charge?

Your written price shows the weekly rate, the delivery and collection charge and any deposit before you book.

Is the calculator a quote?

No. It is an estimate from the numbers you enter about your own household. Your hire price comes from us in writing when you check dates.

Will my insurer pay?

On an insurance claim the cost of a temporary kitchen is often covered under alternative accommodation. Ask your claims handler, and read our insurance claims page for what to ask.
